Bible Verses About Conflict With Family
Bible Verses About Conflict With Family – The action of the Bible can be difficult to notice when you are in the middle of a discussion. Let’s look at examples of conflict resolution activities in the Bible to guide us in our relationship.
If you are just joining me, I would encourage you to read part 1 of this series where we look at the problem and the first steps towards a solution.
Bible Verses About Conflict With Family
My goal in this series is to give you a biblical perspective and examples of conflict resolution. Your responsibility is to immerse yourself in the Word and, as you grow in maturity and understanding of God’s perspective on this matter, discover how to take action in your own life.
Bible Verses About Family Rejection
Everything we discuss from here on out will be counter-cultural. Where the world tells us to fight, God tells us to humble ourselves. Where the world cries out for justice, God refuses forgiveness. Where the world has pointed, God says to examine ourselves before judging our brother.
God’s word tells us that he expects many things from us when it comes to conflict: humility, forgiveness, love and action. To begin, let’s see what we should do to renew ourselves with the fruits of the Spirit, which is a clear sign of the level of our spiritual maturity.
God commands us many times in the Bible to humble ourselves. Matthew 18:4 says, “Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” And in Matthew 23:12 he said: “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”
Humility is a fruit of the Spirit and one that can be very difficult to surrender to. It is the opposite – arrogance – it shows in many ways. Stubbornness, unwillingness to listen to others, lack of enthusiasm, even anger.
Bible Verses About ‘cannot’
One of the biggest obstacles to conflict resolution is our pride. Therefore, we are not surprised that God is looking for a way to teach us a spirit of humility again and again.
In Matthew 23:25-26 he said, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you wash the outside of the cup and plate, but their inside is full of greed and self-loathing. Blind Pharisee! Wash the inside of the cup and plate first, so that the outside is clean.”
How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the mote that is in your eye,’ when you yourself have not seen the mote that is in your own eye? Hypocrite, first remove the mote from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the mote from your brother’s eye.”
These two verses command us to first examine ourselves. Are our thoughts clear? Are our actions and words inspired by God?
Bible Verses About Family Conflict
Once we get the stick out of our sight, only then can we help our brother see the bug or issue that is bothering us. This allows us to move toward forgiveness and reconciliation.
Now, I know there are many times when a fight is one sided. Maybe you have been wronged and not done anything to deserve it. Of course this is happening. However, God still calls us to humility and self-reflection at times when we have sinned against ourselves.
Jesus is the perfect example of someone who has sinned, but he is against it. We’ll dive into the actions you take in a moment.
Forgiveness is one of those things that can be hard to hold. So often we equate forgiveness with a feeling or a feeling. However, forgiveness is an act of love through the power of the Spirit. It’s a choice.
Why Proverbs 17:17 Is The Best Bible Verse On Friendship (and You Should Read It)
Sometimes it doesn’t matter to someone who asks for forgiveness, because there will be people who don’t ask at all. And, now it becomes a deliberate action on our part, because it is required from us.
God forgives us for all the wrongs we do. Every. He did not hold anything back, he did not leave sin behind, and he sacrificed freely. And in Matthew 18 he commands us to do the same.
“Then Peter approached him and said to him, ‘Lord, how many times will my brother sin against me, and I will forgive him? Until seven times?’ Jesus said to him: “I did not tell you seven times, but more than seven times. Matthew 18:21-22
In many cases, this seems like an impossibly tall order. However, he does not ask us to do it alone. We are bound in Christ and with the power of the Spirit we can go to forgiveness. Even in situations where there is no mediation.
Bible Verses About Father And Son Relationship (kjv)
The two are not the same, but forgiveness is indeed something that must happen for reconciliation to take place.
Perhaps the most well-known passage on conflict resolution is Matthew 18:15-21. It is clear that God took the steps you should take to face the person who wronged you. These build on each other and must be followed in order.
This model is incredibly counter-cultural. Often, our first reaction is to talk about the situation with other people. We do this to complain, vent, gain supporters, plead our case, and otherwise stabilize feelings of hurt, crime, or injustice.
However, all it does is create fertile ground for conflict to flare up and grow. If we use God’s “example” then many conflicts can be solved in step number 1 if we just talk directly.
